With AIVAS's plan a success and the Red Star knocked out of orbit, everyone on Pern rejoiced, thankful that their ancient enemy was no longer a threat. For a while life continued on peacefully afterward, however, as the turns passed, things began to change. With Thread gone, Pern's hierarchy flip-flopped and Holds soon rose above Weyrs. The dragons were no longer seen as beautiful, great beasts, but simply creatures of sport and pets. They only flew to entertain humans and to mate, knocking their status to the lowest of pegs within society. To make matters worse, dragonmeat and dragonblood became a delicacy, and killing hatchlings fresh out of the shell - even raising dragonets to adulthood before slaughtering them became common practice within Weyrs.
More than an interval later, two dragons had had enough. After watching their latest clutch of strange and differently colored children being culled right before their eyes, they broke their chains and bugled their defiance - they would suffer no more. They and their riders, along with any other dragons and weyrfolk that could be taken, escaped far, far into the South where none would ever be able to find them. The only silver mutation in the clutch of the defiant gold perished from injuries the Northerners had inflicted, she and her rider were taken between.
Devastated by the loss of the silver female and her rider, the escapees set to work building a Hold, fearing they didn't have enough people among them to survive. Weyrfolk and Holdfolk from the North solved this problem, coming to their aid and escaping the hated regions. Myraid Hold was created, and soon after the Weyr was built as well. In honor of the silver dragon who died, they named it Vulnera Weyr.
Several turns have passed since that time, and since the founding of Vulnera, all sorts of things have happened: Thread has somehow returned; the North continues to launch attacks on the rebel Weyr in hopes of reclaiming complete control; clutches have come and gone, bringing with them several new colors and bringing back the white dragon of legend; a tri-gold Queen manages to escape Fort and flees to the South, where a new Weyr, Lenot, is formed to accommodate her and the growing Vulneran numbers; a strange group of peoples interrogate Lenot from faraway lands, the tribal dragons bringing with them serious illnesses; and much more!
